January 1999
The house is back to normal now, all the Xmas lights are gone. Next year I will have to get some video of the lighting process. It took me about three hours to get the lights up. I fist decided that the method I had planned to use was a bad idea. I was planning to put heavy gage staples up and then either zip strap the lights to them or use twist ties or something. The method I finally landed on was a combination of gutter clips and shingle tabs. The clips were used on the metal awning and the tabs on the roof itself. It took time getting them up because I had to unscrew every bulb to put it into a tab or clip. Then after I got them up I realize I put the bulb in the wrong hole on the tabs. The tab was not allowing the bulb to sit properly in its socket, and it was not lighting. So up the ladder again to unscrew each bulb and move it to the next size hole.
Getting the lights down took about 3 seconds. I climbed the ladder to unhook the gutter clips and then the weight of the bulbs pulled the clips out like dominos, it was great. Of course next year I find out if that domino process broke any of the lights, but that is still 11 months away, so I have plenty of time to procrastinate.
