Though we only moved once during my childhood, I went to three different
Elementary Schools, two Jr. Highs, and thankfully one High School. Wasn't Prop
13 a great idea. Inside of three years California schools went from number one
in the nation to number 50, but you saved hundreds of dollars in taxes. Aren't
you proud? Oh no, I'm not bitter.
In spite of all the moving around that I had to do in the early years, I
managed to take a decent education, even though I think I may have found my
mom's name in my history book. But hey, Columbus still discovered Plymouth Rock
in 1776 just the same today as he done in the 1950's. Antiquated text books and
over loaded class rooms ain't hert me none.
I think the most ironic bit is that the reason the schools were closed and
eventually torn down. "Declining Enrollment"
I graduated from Chico State in 1993 with a BS in Computer Science (3.01 GPA,
that's 0.01 better than a 3.0) I could have done better, but then I never would
have learned to like beer. AKA: I didn't apply myself. In hindsight, I think a
party B is better than a hermit A.
Special thanks to:
Mrs. Beerings (K) (No, I'm not blond anymore. How's you son's leg
doing?)
Mrs. Simmons (1) (You never did staple my thumbs to the ceiling)
(there were two other teachers for my 1st grade class as well, but I just
called them both "Mrs. Uhm, Teacher")
Mrs. Humpfree (2/3) (I know, CI SD SU. I still do it too.)
Mr. Grover and the entire Wilson ELP staff (2-6) (What can I say, it's
your fault I'm a Computer Geek who can develop his own black and white
photographs while playing the recorder, and then make a movie about the whole
thing using two cameras and a video mixer. Thank you! You know, they showed me
that same out of date this is a computer video in college too. Only it was 10
years more out of date than when you showed it to me. Gee whiz, do you really
think that some day I can have a real teletype console in my own home! Golly!)
Mrs. Walker (4) (To this day, I have not done another crossword puzzle)
Mrs. Pomtag (4) (You still have that spider?)
Mrs. Noether (4/6) (Do Re Mi ... I think I'll play the French horn.)
Mr. Munger (5) (If I die from Murcuricoxide poisoning... ah hell, it was
still fun.)
Mrs. Yamasaki (5) (She is The Queen of Graph Paper)
Mrs. Dino (6) (I swear, Steve organized the whole protest thing. I just
made the picket signs.)
Mr. Guest (6) (Quick, what's 3097x731?)
I don't think I can name all my Jr and Sr. High teachers but here it goes.
Mr. Campanella (7), Mr. Cox (7), Mrs. O'Niel (7), Mr. Sethe (7), Mr. Adams (8), Mrs. Sanders(8),
Mr. Hinds (9-12), Mr. Kirschner (10-12), Mrs Easson (9), Mrs. Estep (9,10),
Ms. Voss (11), Mr. Castro (11), Mrs. Wessles (11), Mr. Clark (10),
Mr. Clarke (11), Ms. Lewis [and on occasion, her sister, Ms. Lewis] (9), Mr.
Peterson (9), Mr. Kirshner (10-12), Mr. Keesler (9), Mr. Gredesov (12), Mr. Ryan (12)
There are plenty more, but this is all I can remember off the top of my
head. I guess I'll have to dig out my year books. 31 teachers and 13 years I
can remember off the top of my head, but the single location of all six year
books eludes me.
